The Orillia & Area Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee is made up of community volunteers working hard to increase the number of doctors living and working in the area.

Our Committee was formed in 2001 for the recruitment of family physicians. In 2002 we recognized the need to include the recruitment of specialists and the need to devote efforts to the retention of doctors practicing in our community.

The committee’s major funding has been provided by our connecting municipalities; the City of Orillia, the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Severn, Rama and the Chippewas of Rama First Nations along with Casino Rama and other local businesses and service clubs.

Historically the Committee’s role has been to showcase our community to visiting physicians and medical students.

Since the creation the Committee there have been 16 family/emergency doctors and 33 specialists recruited to the area.

Our Committee has always recognized the importance of working hand-in-hand with our community partners, which include our local hospital, our doctors and our partner municipalities.

Our recruitment committee has enhanced our capabilities by forming a number of sub-committees, including fundraising and marketing. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Pat Thor at 325-4903 ext 3858.
